Briscoe Cain Calls Out Senator Rodriguez On Legislation Allowing Men in Women’s Restrooms

On Monday, November 14, 2016, pre-filing for bills to be heard during the 85th legislative session began.  Among those bills first to be filed is SB165, authored by Democratic Senator Jose Rodriguez, which seeks to allow men in women’s restrooms.

Similar legislation proposed in Houston was defeated in a referendum vote in November 2015, 61%-39%.

Constitutional lawyer and incoming Freshman Representative from HD128, Briscoe Cain, vowed to fight against the proposed legislation in the upcoming session, calling out Senator Rodriguez’s radical views on the issue.

“After Houston voters soundly opposed the ‘Houston Equal Rights Ordinance’, it seems the left wants to implement the same defeated policy statewide,” said Cain.  “Just as I helped in the fight against this same legislation in Houston, I too will work to ensure this bad policy is not put into state law. Senator Rodriguez is an extreme radical on this issue. The vast majority of Texans oppose this legislation, and I will too.”

In 2015, Briscoe Cain worked as an attorney for the Campaign for Houston, assisting their efforts in defeating the “HERO” proposition. Briscoe Cain is the Representative-elect for House District 128, located in Southeast Harris County.  His first term in the State Legislature is scheduled to begin on January 10, 2017.
